Tomorrow is the New Moon. For those of you who follow the lunar Ogham calendar we are entering the Hazel moon which also shares a place with the Apple moon. This seems appropriate as many have gone back to school at this time. It is a time for obtaining new knowledge and setting intentions for the cycle ahead.
I have just created the first week of lessons for those of you who are joining The Enchanted Sisterhood club.
Since this is only the beginning, I wanted to share my thoughts about what I want to accomplish with the sisterhood.
🍂#1 The Pursuit of Magic. Above all else this sharing circle and class is a way of rekindling magic. I want every day to be infused with enchantment. This is a way of keeping the Magic alive and sharing it with others who are ready to receive these joyful, powerful lessons.
🍂#2 Community/Connection. I want to build community with my sisters. I want to share our magical experiences and learn from one another. I want to feel like I am not doing this on my own. Even though most of us will be participating in the exercises and rituals from our own homes, I want to share our experiences through email. This is meant to be interactive, a constant flow of messages. I ENCOURAGE and even would say it is a REQUIREMENT to SHARE your thoughts and experiences with each week’s exercises with me. Go ahead and hit that reply button when you are done. Did you create art inspired by that week’s lesson? Did you have an amazing, magical dream after completing that week’s ritual? Share it.
Of of course some of your experiences might feel private. You don’t have to share the deeply personal unless you want to, but DO share SOMETHING.
Join the conversation on Instagram @sealskinjacket too. I will include discussion prompts that fit with the week’s lesson in our group messages. Not every person in the group message is in the sisterhood, so I ask that you keep the course materials to yourself but I do encourage you to share your experiences relating to the theme/discussion prompts for the week.
🍂#3 FUN! This should be joyful, creative, and inspiring. Engage in the material as a child engages in play. That’s not to say this isn’t serious. You will need dedication if you are going to benefit from the lessons in the sisterhood, but don’t get bogged down or stressed out. It should be a balance of joy and learning.
Some of the topics we will cover in the sisterhood are:
🍂The Dark Goddess mysteries
🍂Animism, nature connections, and sense of place.
🍂The Ancestors and recording our ancestral stories.
🍂Writing our personal legend
🍂Shedding our skin and growing a new one, women as shapeshifting animal in stories from around the world—particularly the story of the selkie.
🍂Stepping into our power as fully autonomous, sovereignty goddess.
To complete the lessons in the sisterhood you will need:
🍂A journal. This can be any blank book of your choosing. I recommend that you personalize it—really make it your own. In the first week of the sisterhood I suggest ritual for cleansing/purifying your journal.
🍂Ritual clothing. This can be anything! Just choose a cloak, dress, shawl, hat, or any other item of clothing that you wear every time you engage in ritual, journal, and complete the exercises I give to sisterhood members. Make sure you ritually cleanse this clothing in any way you see fit (smudge with sage, cover in crystals, wear for the first time under the light of the full moon, etc.)
SUGGESTED READING LIST
I would like for you to attempt to read some of the following books. I sometimes share excerpts and guide you to websites and podcasts by these authors, but you will really thrive in this sisterhood if you are able to absorb information from some of these books.
🍂Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
🍂If Women Rose Rooted by Sharon Blackie
🍂Animism by Graham Harvey (or his book, Paganism)
🍂The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers (or the film by the same name).
🍂Body and Earth by Andrea Olsen
🍂Ogham: Wisdom of the Trees by Jon Dathen
🍂The Lost Words by Robert MacFarlane
🍂The Old Ways by Robert MacFarlane
I will continue to recommend books, films, artists, articles, etc. as I think of them and as we proceed through each season of the sisterhood.
